Optimising Bandwidth

Many internet users will benefit from deploying web caches in their network.  Some have high capacity and relatively cheap bandwidth, but are loading that capacity with new high-volume (and often high priority) traffic, such as VoIP.  Deploying caches in branch offices and core networks to optimise distribution of HTTP content frees capacity for this high priority traffic.

For many other users around the world, bandwidth is still scarce and very expensive. Here web caches are the obvious answer.  In simple cost savings alone, payback is rapid and return on investment very high.  Narrow bandwidth becomes more useful to end-users.  Service providers see their bandwidth offer become more attractive.

Deployment Flexibility

CACHEBOX can operate as a forward cache in either explicit or transparent modes. In transparent mode web traffic is automatically redirected via the cache.  Subject to firewalling rules all your other traffic passes through to the next router unimpeded.

CACHEBOX can also be deployed in conjunction with a WCCP enabled Cisco router. Once you have registered the appliances with the router, it will pass web traffic through the devices.  In the event of a device being offline it will automatically route traffic through the remaining devices. This method gives a neat solution for cache load balancing and redundancy.

When configured for reverse caching CACHEBOX can be presented to the rest of the internet as the target web server, accepting connections on behalf of a real web server and serving cached copies of data where possible. This allows your real server to have a lower hardware specification and a slower connection to the cache.
